In December, Motherboard discovered a Redditor named ‘deepfakes’ who swaps the faces of celebrity onto porn performers bodies using machine learning and artificial intelligence to make fake porn.
He made several convincing porn videos of celebrities – including Scarlett Johansson, Daisy Ridley, Maisie Williams, Taylor Swift, Aubrey Plaza, and Gal Gadot on Reddit using a machine learning algorithm, his personal computer, made publicly available videos in his free time.
PEOPLE CAN PUT YOUR FACE ON PORN – AND THE LAW CAN’T HELP YOU.
The word deepfake itself is now a noun for the kinds of AI-generated fake videos.
The practice of producing AI-assisted fake porn has just begun & is exploding.
People are creating fake porn using machine learning, and the results have become increasingly convincing.

It involves mapping someone else’s face onto a porn stars body.
Fake porn seamless enough to be mistaken for the real thing. This terrible trend has been brewing for months.
Another Redditor has created a user-friendly app called FakeApp which is specifically designed to allow users to create AI-assisted fake porn even users without a computer science background can also easily use it.
Still, the technology is in the early stages, it’s only getting more sophisticated and widespread.
Tools which one needs to make these videos are now free, easily & readily available, with the set of instructions that novices can follow through the process.
Often, the resulting videos are nearly indecipherable from reality which makes even more challenging, terrible and worst when we can no longer tell the difference between the fake faces and real ones.
It is more disturbingly that anyone can easily make fake revenge porn of civilians.
Motherboard has a great article with Redditors post that is worth reading:
People are actively using, this app to create fake porn videos of people they know in real life – friends, exes, casual acquaintances, classmates, colleagues, – without their permission.
Tools like Instagram Scraper and the Chrome extension DownAlbum make it easy to pull photos from publicly available Facebook or Instagram accounts and onto your hard drive. These tools have legitimate, non-creepy purposes.
With enough images of a face, they now need to find the right body of a porn performer to put it on.
Every face does not fit perfectly on every body due to differences in face dimensions, hair, eyes, nose, and other variables. The better the match, the more convincing the final result. This part of the deepfake making process has also been semi-automated and streamlined.
Browser-based applications that claim to use facial recognition software to find porn performers who lookalike the person they want to make face-swap of.
A user uploads a photo of the person they want to create a fake porn of, the site spits out an adult performer they could use, and then the user can go searching for that performer’s videos on sites to create a deepfake.

Some users in a deepfakes discord chatroom trade tips that how they use social networking media to create such videos.
One user said that he made a video of a girl with whom he went to high school with, using around 380 pictures scraped from her Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Deepfakeapp responded to Motherboard on a Reddit via direct message that
“Eventually, I want to improve it to the point where prospective users can simply select a video on their computer, download a neural network correlated to a certain face from a publicly available library, and swap the video with a different face with the press of one button.”
STAND AGAINST ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE-GENERATED FAKE PORN
Discord shut down the chatroom where people were discussing the creation of deepfake porn videos.
“Non-consensual pornography warrants an instant shut down on the servers whenever we identify it, as well as a permanent ban on the users”
A Discord representative told Business Insider.
“We have investigated these servers and shut them down immediately.”
Gfycat, the popular GIF hosting and creation site has come out against the rising new trend of artificial intelligence-generated fake pornography videos.
Motherboard was the first to report the News of Gfycat’s stance on deepfakes & the existence of deepfakes, as well as the subreddit dedicated to the practice and its growing popularity.
Gfycat starts removing fake AI porn GIFs from its platform.
“Our terms of service allow us to remove content that we find objectionable. We are actively removing this content,” a Gfycat spokesperson told The Verge
Most of the posts in r/deepfakes so far are porn, but some users are also creating videos that show the far-reaching implication of a technology. A user named Z3ROCOOL22 combined footage of Hitler with Argentina’s president Mauricio Macri:
There are too many vulnerable people on the internet, especially women. Jessica Alba, Emma Watson, Arianna Grande, Natalie Portman, Game of Thrones fame actress Sophie Turner, and much more are there to fall victim to FakeApp.
So think twice-thrice or even more before posting your personal photos on social networking sites. We don’t know who might use these tools to disturbed your life badly.
Hope you find this helpful.
